Sgian Dubh Class
Forge your very own heirloom "Sgian Dubh" from start to finish. The Sgian Dubh is the classic Scottish knife, deep rooted in Scotlands history.
On this course we forge the blade from a piece of 1070 high carbon steel, grind the final profile and heat treat the blade to be a tough working knife that will last a life time. In the afternoon we'll fit an oak handle made from old whiskey barrel, then clean and polish the blade before sharpening it to a razor's edge.
What to bring & What to wear
Wear old clothes and sensible shoes. A pair of jeans and a cotton top are ideal. I will provide the PPE you will need but please don't wear a fleece as these can melt.
We will stop for tea and coffee breaks but it can be a hot day so it's a good idea to bring a bottle of water with you.
Lunch is available from the charity that owns my workshop on Wednesday to Friday, but please make a donation if you do partake.
For classes booked on Saturday - Tuesday, please bring your own packed lunch, though there are shops nearby.
Cancellations
Due to the unfortunate nature of my primary day job, from time to time my availability may change at very short notice. (Some times this can be less than 24hrs)
I will always email you a few days ahead of the class to make sure everything is still ok.
If however for what ever reason I need to cancel the class, I will offer a full refund or the opportunity to reschedule the class at a later date.
